September 2020. Supporting your child's return to school

September 2020 - Welcome back to the Autumn Term

What is it?

Professor Barry Carpenter has developed a recovery curriculum as a response to the losses that children may have experienced in different ways during this time. The common thread running through this loss is loss of routine, structure, friendship, opportunity and freedom. These losses can trigger anxiety in any child.

We know that an anxious child is not in a place to learn effectively. With this in mind. the school community has been considering how to ease the children's reintroduction to school and re-ignite their ability to learn. We want our children to be happy, feel safe and enable them to re-engage with their learning.

In order to support the children's mental health and well-being we have adopted the 5 levers developed by Professor Carpenter.

Onsite at St John's

The staff at St. Johns are really excited to see our fantastic pupils return to school. But we also know some children and parents are a bit unsure of what to expect when returning to school. So we have create a short video of the changes any children returning to St. John's.

We hope it helps to ease your mind and we can wait to see you.

Stay safe! Stay Alert!
