A new school year has begun and we have taken time over the summer break to consider how we reward our children who demonstrate commitment to excellent learning behaviour, show a passion for living our school values and understand the basic but often under-appreciated need to commit themselves to the hard work needed to improve. Our children often personify these values, be it in the classroom or during extra-curricular time, so we felt it time to refresh and improve our approach to rewarding them.
Mrs Stone and Mr Price have worked their socks off to develop new houses and an intended ethos for the new system. Children will get the opportunity to work hard to gain points for their excellent behaviour across a wide range of areas. They will then get the opportunity to work towards a Bronze, Silver, Gold and then Platinum reward over the course of the school year.
After a whole school assembly to launch the new system, it's time to properly say "Hello!" to Churnet Cheetahs, Manifold Meerkats and Trent Tigers! All of our new houses have been named after important rivers local to our area, with the added fun of a bit of animal involvement too. All children in school now belong to a new team and for the first time our teachers also have a home as they too have been allocated houses! Y6 have elected House Captains and Sports Leaders for each of the three houses and we'll soon kick our sporting calendar off with a whole-school intra-house cross country event.
There will, of course, be no bias whatsoever from staff towards their own house! (...go Trent Tigers! :-))
