Physical Education

At St John’s we use the GetSet4PE programme to develop children’s ability to succeed and excel. Our ultimate aim is for children to have good physical confidence to support their health and fitness.

PE Long Term Plan

Progression of Skills and Knowledge: We follow carefully mapped skills progression plans, as exemplified below (relating to our ‘Fielding and Striking’ units):

Example Progression Ladders (Fielding and Striking)

Progression in Vocabulary: We follow carefully mapped vocabulary plans, as exemplified below (relating to our units that work on invasion game skills and application). We believe that by using the appropriate vocabulary at the appropriate stage, children will become more proficient in their social and teamworking skills alongside developing a sense of confidence in their own thorough understanding of a particular unit of work.

Example Progression in Vocabulary: Invasion Games

Progression of Skills: All skills are built on year-on-year depending on our pupils’ progression.

Example Progression of Skills: Fundamental Movement
